This past weekend my brother, Doug, my oldest son, Bob, and my youngest daughter, Christine, went to the 2022 Krans cousin's reunion at Jeff Krans' farm in Homestead, Wisconsin.
We stopped at the cemetery at the Aurora Free Church in Aurora, and I will post photos of the cemetery stones we cleaned there later.
When we left Iron Mountain, we went on to the Commonwealth Cemetery where Andrew Lundwall Sr. and his wife Margreta are buried and my son and brother also cleaned and restored the stones there.
While we were there a woman stopped and came to talk to us. Turned out that her father had bought Emil Equist's house in Commonwealth and later sold that after doing some extended remodeling and adding to the house, building a garage, and only the front of the house looks the same. She emailed photos to us, which we will add later. One is a very wide photo of the men who worked in the mine. We think one of the men may be Andrew Ekquist.
We went from there to the Stambaugh cemetery in Iron River and cleaned the Oscar, Teckla, Hazel, and Ray footstones along with the Lundwall headstone. Will post these later as well.
We have a wonderful large extended family, and we all enjoyed the reunion sharing memories, meeting relatives, and there was a whole lot of hugging going on.
A great big "THANK YOU" to those who continue this reunion each year, and include those of us with Ekquist ties!!!
More later!
