Gammelgarden's Spelmanstamma

Things have kind of gotten away from me over the past few weeks. From last reports I've heard, Eugene is doing well, but his neck still gets tired sooner than he wants, but recovery is going well, just not quite fast enough for Eugene.

We are getting ready for school, Riana's last doctor, dentist, cardiologist, and orthodontist appointments before school starts, Norene and Doug are getting ready to go to Sweden, Riana and I have been involved in lots of activities at Gammelgarden (that translates to "Old Farm"), a Swedish farm museum about half an hour from here.

Today when I was there, I was given a newspaper containing the following photo I'd like to share with you. Riana is keeping our Swedish heritage alive here in Minnesota.

Riana is on the right side leading the fiddlers, and carrying the Swedish Flag
Riana worked 11 hours at Spelmanstanna.

More vintage photos coming soon if things settle down some.

Starting with some of the oldest group photos

These photos came from Davey, Marlin and Uncle Kenneth's album!

Great-Grandma Louisa and her daughter Ida

This is the way they got meat for their families.
Grandpa is in the middle.

Grandpa is on the left.
This may be the red plaid cap Ronnie and I squabbled over.

Kenneth and Alice in back
Lloyd, Marlin and Janet in front

This is the stonework on the fireplace
(stonework was also on the porch)
Children who lived in the house after Grandma moved

Dave, Doris, Grandma, Aunt Inga and Uncle Andrew in front

I know this is a very faded photo, however it is the only photo I've found where it appears that Grandpa is laughing!
Oops -- looks like he's also holding a gun!
Kenneth, Dave, Grandpa, Ray, Ward and Lloyd

Here's another one with Grandpa smiling -- they are rare.
Carol Jean, Jean, Violet, Margaret, Lawrence (does anyone know who Carol Jean, Jean and Lawrence are?), David, Doris, Oscar holding Davey. I can't find Lloyd, however.

Margaret, Grandma and Doris in back
Alice and Janet in front

Aunt Julia and Grandma
Edith and Emil Equist, Grandma and Grandpa
Grandma and Aunt Ida in Aurora

Back row: Kenneth, Ward, Margaret, Ray, Doris, Dave and Earl
In front: Lloyd, Joyce, Janet, Bill and Marlin
This photo was taken at Ward's home in St. Paul.

This is a long slow process so enough for today.

Also -- Eugene's surgery went well and he and Alice are with Norene for a couple of days. Here's hoping you have an easy and rapid recovery, Eugene!

Coming soon

Spent a delightful evening with Eugene and Alice at Norene's tonight. They brought with them Uncle Kenneth's photo album with many photos I've never seen before. It will take me several days to scan in photos from the album, identify who is in the photos, and organize them. I also have photos from Davey to put together, as well as Uncle Marlin's photos to work with -- so check back in a couple of days to see more vintage photos!

I have been doing volunteer work for the past couple of days, so have not had time to put together anything to post. I also have a referral for aquatic physical therapy which I am really looking forward to!

Please have patience -- more postings will be made soon!

to an even larger gathering on Saturday.
